Global Studies Art Project



Global Project 
Goal: to create a creative work that richly depicts a topic from Global History. This project can be done individually or collaboratively (including other students from FLHS).

All Projects (Poem, Song and Collage Painting) Require a 2 Paragraph Artist Statement Where You Explain How Your Piece Relates to a Point In History.
Medium: -song (remix/parody or original) or spoken word poem
                 -art piece- collage painting, or two page spread comic strip.  (Make Jacques Louis-David proud!)
                 -Video

Grading: Content-50%
                 Form-25%
                 Creativity-25%

Presentation: Earn an extra 10 points on the next exam and a loyal fan base.

Rubric
Content
4-Covers topic in-depth with details and examples. Subject knowledge is excellent.
3-Includes essential knowledge about the topic. Subject knowledge appears to be good.
2-Includes essential information about the topic but there are 1-2 factual errors.
1-Content is minimal OR there are several factual errors.
Form
4-Content is organized according to project guidelines.
3-Content is mostly organized and structured adequately.
2-Content is partially organized, but lacking structure.
1-There was no clear or logical organizational structure, just lots of facts.
Creativity
4-Product shows a large amount of original thought. Ideas are creative and inventive.
3-Product shows some original thought. Work shows new ideas and insights.
2-Uses other people\'s ideas (giving them credit), but there is little evidence of original thinking.
1-Uses other people\'s ideas, but does not give them credit.

Keep in mind your song or spoken word poem does not have to be so literal.  You can use poetic devices like metaphor to write your song or poem.

Song Guidelines
•Song has to have the following structure:
•At least 150 words could be more.
–Verse 1
–Chorus
–Verse 2
–Chorus
–Interlude
–Verse 3
•Song has to be accompanied with a melody.
•Song has to be performed or recorded and presented in class.


Spoken Word Guidelines
•If you write a spoken word poem it has to have at least 500 words.
•It should be on one type written page and be in 2 columns. 


Art Project Requirements 
Collage Painting
Needs to be on a stretched canvas that is 18“ x 24”.
•Purchase a tube of acrylic matte medium (used to spread over the pasted images) and 3 acrylic paint colors in tubes -Liquitex basics is a good brand-(Medium Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Medium Cadmium Red, and Titanium White)
*If you bring in 5 jars with lids to school I can give you the paint I have in school to take home with you.  I will only be available to do that pd. 11 in Rm 119 on 1/2/13 and 1/3/13.
Get at least 2 brushes for acrylic paint.  They should be #12 Round brushes for acrylic paint.
•Use the following materials:
–Paint
–News paper articles (Use glue or paste to adhere to canvas)
–Objects
–Etc.

•For the collage painting you have to use at least 6 images- 4 of these images have to be specific to the historical events
–The other 2 images could be metaphorical.
•Write a 2 paragraph artist statement explaining how your work relates to a point in history.


Comic Book Narrative
  • ·       Needs to be done horizontally on an 18”x24” piece of watercolor paper or bristol paper.
  • ·       Needs to be penciled then inked with a black gel pen and then painted in watercolor.
